Hitotsubashi University and Ashesi University signed an Academic and Student Exchange Agreement

 

In January 2026, Hitotsubashi University (HU) and Ashesi University in Ghana signed the Academic and Student Exchange Agreement to promote academic cooperation and student exchange.

 

Ashesi University is a private university located in Berekuso, approximately 30 km far from Accra. Established in 2002, it is a relatively young institution that has experienced rapid growth under the leadership of its founder and president, Patrick G. Awuah, Jr., expanding its student body from an initial 30 students to over 1,000 today. Ashesi University is a member of the U7+ global university alliance, which HU is also its member. The mission of Ashesi University is to cultivate new generation leaders in Africa and to nurture critical thinking skills etc., of which is necessary for innovation of Africa. Many graduates secure employment at leading companies in Europe and the United States; however, the university encourages its graduates to return to Ghana and contribute for the development of Ghana and Africa.

 

Ashesi University is HU’s first partner university for student exchange in Ghana and Africa. Through this agreement, HU and Ashesi University each agree to send undergraduate and graduate students to the other universities each year. Students from HU would have the opportunity to take courses taught in English at Ashesi University.
